Steal Like an Artist: 10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative - Austin Kleon

Let it be known that this book by no means endorses plagiarism.

Now that we got that out of the way...

I read somewhere that what makes a book good is that, at the moment, it was just what you needed.

After finishing The Boss, I got depressed. I was loving it and then poof, the good experience disappeared, and suddenly my reading and writing mojo went along with it. Which was very surprising because the book in question was actually fairly enjoyable. But hey, it happened.

I remembered that my sister had gotten this book as a gift. The title caught my attention. Afraid that it would only be for visual artists (she is currently studying Fine Arts), I didn't touch it. Then I somehow rationalized that we are both artists in our own way. We could probably use the same advice at times. I also figured that I needed a good kick in the pants. This book is just that.

Excellent tips on how to 'steal' from other artists aka how to distill inspiration from your favorite authors/artists and transform it into your creative work.

What I really enjoyed was that the book was never preachy. It helped me think outside the box, not to mention getting rid of all those flimsy excuses on why I can't/won't write.

I really recommend it to all those creatives out there.
