milk and honey - rupi kaur
she was a rose
in the hands of those
who had no intention
of keeping her

This collection of poems was not what I expected. It hit me in the feels, I needed some time to collect my thoughts and gasp for air. I also didn't expect how raw that first section would be. I'm still recovering.

I read this in one sitting. The illustrations were a very nice touch, I took some time to examine each. The downside is that some of the poems do become very repetitive which made part of the experience lose its impact. Also, some of the imagery was really powerful while others were so convoluted I wasn't very sure of what I was reading.

Still, I liked it and the letter to the reader at the end made me tear up.
