Holy shit. I have survived this book. I have made it to the other side, emotionally exhausted but satisfied.
I thought of reviewing this later once I had recovered but might as well do it now. Be warned, my thoughts will be all over the place.
This book is one hell of a ride. It starts really slow. The first 50%, in my opinion, is one giant set up. Introducing characters, circumstances, etc. Then the next 50% of the book comes in and it is just one unstoppable free fall from there. You will lose the desire to sleep, eat and interact with your loved ones. All you will want to do is sit and devour this book because up until 98% you will not be calm, you will not be safe from the flurry of betrayals and most of all, you will not be at peace.
I loved Wynter and Khamsin, both as a couple and as individuals. They have personalities, they have hopes, fears, dreams and a mountain of pain to get through. I thought they were incredibly well suited for each other. Though their full names earned a place in my special name shelf. Their tempers were explosive but not to the point that you wanted to maim them. That was a plus.

This is also a book that is filled with villains that you want to kill with your bare hands.

The world building is really well done. I was swept into the lore of Mystral immediately. You can read and see the attention to detail Ms. Wilson took with it. It fed my imagination like crazy.
There is a next book coming about a character that was introduced near the end and one of Khamsin’s sisters. Because the man charmed me, I seriously considered it but then I remember the emotional trauma I just went through… do I really want to do that to myself again?
Overall, an unforgettable ride not for the faint of heart or severely anxious like myself.
